2 Wels cyclists in action in the World Championship road race

2 Wels cyclists in action in the World Championship road race:

Organisational mishap costs Wels cyclists top spot in France

The Wels cyclists were in action today with 6 cyclists on the final stage of the Tour d'Eure-etLoir (UCI 2.2.) in France. On the 190-kilometer section from Vernouillet to Chartres, Michael Kukrle and Miguel Heidemann - who were vice world champions in the mixed team competition at the Road Cycling World Championships in Zurich on Wednesday - were particularly impressive. They were in the leading group for a long time and repeatedly tried to make a preliminary decision. The main field was able to stop the breakaway riders, however, and 1kilometer before the finish, a 40-man leading group raced towards the finish line, but were misdirected at the last bend. This also ruined the chances of Wels cyclist Tom Wirtgen, who was in a promising position. In the end, Michael Kukrle only finished 36th in the overall ranking.

World Championship road race over 273.9 kilometers with Wels participation

Wels professional cyclists Sebastian Schönberger and Emanuel Zangerle were competing for Austria today at the 2024 Cycling World Championships in Zurich in a difficult 273.9 kilometer road race. Many top stars had to fight hard in the one-man show of Tadej Pogacar, who won the race after a 100 kilometer solo ride with a total time of 6:27:30 hours, including the Austrians: The best local athlete on the extremely difficult course was Felix Großschartner in 29th place, 06:36 minutes behind, Wels

professional Sebastian Schönberger fought his way to the finish line as the second best Austrian in 76th place, almost half of the world's best professional cyclists did not finish the race. "We were represented on the big stage of world cycling with 4 riders this week and we will continue to do everything we can to ensure that top-class cycling continues in Wels in 2025," emphasizes RSW Managing Director Daniel Repitz.
