The final stage from Targu Mures to Miercurea Ciuc was on the agenda today at the 18th Tour of Szeklerland 2024 (UCI 2.2). The Felt Felbermayr Wels team attacked fully on the 171.8-kilometer section. After catching up with a five-man leading group, Riccardo Zoidl and two other riders were able to break away just before the finish. The leading trio tried everything to save their narrow lead to the finish, but were caught just before the finish line and Riccardo Zoidl secured 5th place after 3:46:18 hours, two seconds behind the Irish day winner Conn Mc Dunphy from Team Skyline. Teammate Michael Kukrle took 8th place today.
In the overall ranking, Michael Kukerle defended his 2nd place, the victory in the tour went to the Russian Gonov Lev (Astana Development Team) with a total time of 6:09:24 hours, who came 4th today and thus won the tour just ahead of the Czech. Riccardo Zoidl finished the tour in 5th place overall. "3rd place in the prologue, 2nd place on the 1st stage, 2nd place overall - Romania was definitely worth the trip for us," emphasises racing director Paul Renger, who looks after the team in Romania.
