The Felt Felbermayr Wels team delivered a top performance on the 1st stage of the Tour of Szeklerland 2024 (UCI 2.2): professional cyclist Michael Kukrle took 2nd place on the 117-kilometer section from Sfantu Gheorghe to Miercurea Ciuc and missed the stage win by a whisker. The Czech was in the lead for a long time with three other escape companions and the quartet managed to save a 5-second lead over the approaching main field to the finish. Kukrle sprinted and took 2nd place behind the winner Balasz Rozsa (Epronex - Hungary Cycling Team) after 2:17:17 hours. With this performance, "Kuki" also improved to 2nd place in the overall ranking, at the same time behind the overall leader Russian Gonov Lev (Astana Development Team). Teammate Riccardo Zoidl, who finished third in the prologue yesterday, is in fourth place overall, just 8 seconds behind. "We will attack fully on the last stage tomorrow to bring the tour victory to Wels," emphasises racing director Paul Renger, who looks after the team in Romania.
