The Tour of Austria 2024 continued today with the difficult 3rd stage from Schladming to St. Johann Alpendorf. The Felt Felbermayr Wels team presented itself in excellent form on the first difficult mountain stage of the tour. On the final climb, Riccardo Zoidl and Hermann Pernsteiner fought for the day's victory and ultimately finished 9th and 12th, 6 seconds behind World Tour professional Diego Ulissi (UAE Team Emirates). "We gave it our all today and were able to play to our strengths in the intense race. Tomorrow's Glockner stage is of course very important.", emphasised the 2013 tour winner Riccardo Zoidl. In the overall ranking he has now improved to 10th place as the best Felt Felbermayr cyclist. "The team showed a strong performance today. Now we need to recover quickly so that we can fight for top positions again in the next two days," said racing director Rupert Hödlmoser.
What an exciting stage the numerous spectators were treated to today on the 153.1 kilometers from Schladming to St. Johann. Already on the climb to the Dientner Sattel, two riders clearly broke away from the peloton and 30 kilometers from the finish line they were already over 2:40 minutes ahead of the first chasing group, which also included Riccardo Zoidl, Hermann Pernsteiner, Sebastian Schönberger and Emanuel Zangerle. Around 6 kilometers from the finish, the two breakaway riders were caught and it became a tough elimination race to the finish in St. Johann. Ulissi had the most energy on the final climb and won the stage after 3:45:04 hours. In the first chasing group peppered with World Tour riders, the Welser team showed their class and took 9th and 12th place. In the team ranking, Felt Felbermayr is now in 6th place.
