14th place for Sebastian Schönberger on the 2nd stage of the Tour of Austria 2024

The Felt Felbermayr team is gaining momentum at the Tour of Austria. On today's second stage from Maria Taferl to Steyr, three Wels cyclists reached the finish line with the leading group. Sebastian Schönberger was the best Felt Felbermayr rider in 14th place, Hermann Pernsteiner and Riccardo Zoidl finished in 19th and 22nd place at the same time as winner Brandon Rivera (Team Ineos Grenadiers) after 4:11:53 hours. An even better placing was ruined by a fall by Emanuel Zangerle and Miguel Heidemann, who fell on the decisive climb to the Porscheberg. "That was a brutally difficult race today. I'm happy with the placing and we showed ourselves to be very strong as a team. Our stages start tomorrow," emphasises Sebastian Schönberger. In the overall ranking, Riccardo Zoidl improved by 38 places to 18th place, just 21 seconds behind the yellow jersey. Close behind are Sebastian Schönberger and Hermann Pernsteiner in 20th and 21st place overall.

Exciting finale in Steyr

The Tour of Austria 2024 continued today with the 2nd stage from Maria Taferl to Steyr. Immediately after the start, the first attack took place, which ended in a mass crash after just 4 kilometers. The race was then neutralized so that injured riders could be treated. After about an hour, the race continued. On the hilly section over a total of 184.5 kilometers, breakaway groups repeatedly broke away from the peloton, but ultimately had no chance against the pace-setting main field with several World Tour teams. After the Damberg, around 60 riders were in the lead, traveling at high speed to the Scharfrichter Porscheberg. On the approach, the two Wels residents Miguel Heidemann and Emanuel Zangerle fell in a left-hand bend and were thus out of the race in the final phase. On the steep climb to the Porscheberg over 1.7 kilometers with a gradient of up to 20 percent, the field was completely torn apart 5 kilometers from the finish. Around 20 riders fought it out for victory on the town square in Steyr and today the Ineos Grenadiers team came out on top. "Tomorrow the tour really starts for us. With Ricci, Hermann and Sebastian we have three riders in promising positions," said racing director Rupert Hödlmoser.
