Finally another victory for “Ricci”
After yesterday's stage victory and the leader's jersey for Felix Ritzinger, the Felt Felbermayr team went one better today: With Riccardo Zoidl and Hermann Pernsteiner, the Wels team celebrated a double success in Greece: Today's stage had two mountain classifications in category 2 and one in horse Category in itself. On the final climb over 11.8 kilometers with an average gradient of 8.7 percent, the two Wels mountain chamois took the initiative and took victory in a convincing manner. After 4:31:34 hours, Riccardo Zoidl was able to raise his arms in celebration at 1,800 meters above sea level after several years without a win. The success was marred by a fall suffered by Josef Dirnbauer, who is currently being examined in hospital for an injury to his collarbone. “Our racing tactics worked completely today. Now we will all work hard over the next two days to defend the leader’s jersey and bring the tour victory to Wels,” emphasizes racing director Paul Renger, who looks after the team in Greece.
Overall leadership in the tour
With today's victory, Ricci Zoidl also takes over the lead in the overall standings from his teammate Felix Ritzinger, who slipped into the leader's jersey yesterday. The Upper Austrian's lead over his teammate Hermann Pernsteiner is 46 seconds before the last two stages. The Wels team also leads in the team ranking.
